TRANS-MASCULINE HRT · MEDICATION GUIDE

# Nebido Injections therapy, a clear guide.

Nebido provides one of the steadiest serum testosterone curves available, with peaks and troughs far less pronounced than with Sustanon. Because it's a larger volume of oil-based medication, Nebido must be administered by a healthcare professional.

OVERVIEW

## What nebido injections does, in plain English.

Nebido contains testosterone undecanoate dissolved in castor oil. Compared with Sustanon, the half-life is much longer: your levels stay stable for months and the peak/trough swing is much smaller. NHS guidance associates it with a lower risk of polycythaemia than shorter-acting injections.

Patients typically begin with a loading dose, followed by a second dose at 6 weeks, then maintenance every 12 weeks. If menstrual bleeding returns near the end of a cycle, the interval may be shortened to 9-10 weeks.

SIDE EFFECTS & RISKS

## What to watch for, and what to tell us.

Nebido is generally very well tolerated. Polycythaemia (raised haematocrit) is the main long-term safety marker we watch.

Common

Injection-site soreness +

For a couple of days after the injection. Rotate sides.

Acne and skin changes +

Usually milder than with shorter-acting esters. Settles after the first year.

Voice deepening +

Permanent. Begins around 3 months.

Cessation of menstruation +

Within the first 6 months for most patients.

Less common / serious

Polycythaemia +

Less common than with Sustanon, but still monitored every 6 months. Manage with hydration (≥2L/day), blood donation if eligible, or extending the interval to 12-14 weeks.

Pulmonary microembolism +

Rare but recognised: small oil droplets reaching the lung. Clinicians inject slowly to minimise the risk.

Monitoring schedule

We catch things early. Here's the routine you can expect.

Most of the testing is front-loaded while we fine-tune your dose. Once your levels are stable, it's usually just once a year.
