Director & Lead Clinician
Mary Burke RN NMP (She / Her)
Mary is the Director, Lead Clinician, and Senior Prescriber at The Gender Hormone Clinic. She began her career by qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 1986, followed by a Midwife in 1988, and a Family Planning Nurse in 1993. In 1992, she also became a qualified Acupuncturist after completing her studies at The British College of Acupuncture.
With over thirty years of experience in both the NHS and private practice, Mary has gained extensive expertise, particularly in general practice and women’s health. In 2008, she returned to university to earn her Independent Prescribing qualification, enabling her to work autonomously and expand her scope of practice.
In 2014, Mary earned accreditation in bio-identical hormone therapy. Having worked with transgender individuals for a decade, she recognised the significant overlap between hormone treatments for andropause, menopause, and transgender hormone therapy. This led her to specialise in transgender patient care.
Today, Mary collaborates with a multidisciplinary team that includes gender specialist psychiatrists, psychologists, endocrinologists, and surgeons to offer comprehensive, compassionate, and supportive care for all transgender and non-binary patients, from the initial consultation through to hormone therapy and surgery.
She is an active member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the European Professional Association for Transgender Health (EPATH), the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS), and the British Menopause Society. Mary regularly attends conferences to stay updated on evolving policies and practices and to share her insights.
Driven by a deep passion for improving transgender healthcare, Mary is committed to providing the highest standard of care, ensuring that every patient at the clinic feels respected, heard, and understood.
