Cole Pickering NMP (He / Him)
Cole qualified as a paramedic in 2018 and quickly established himself in emergency care, providing critical treatment and support to patients and their families. With a strong desire to help others, a career as a paramedic was a natural choice for him. Concurrently, Cole began his journey as a trans man, starting his medical transition with hormone therapy and top surgery.
In 2020, Cole sought career advice from Mary regarding a position at the Gender Hormone Clinic. She suggested he enhance his skills, prompting him to pursue advanced training. By 2022, Cole left the ambulance service to complete master’s-level modules, including courses in prescribing and becoming a First Contact Practitioner within a GP practice. These studies enabled him to become an advanced clinician, significantly improving his consultation skills and allowing him to support and care for transgender patients in a general practice setting.
Recently, Cole began working at a private hospital as a specialist practitioner, providing pre-and post-operative support for transgender and non-binary patients undergoing top surgery. This role allows him to connect with individuals on a personal level, offering holistic, person-centred care and leveraging his profound understanding to provide compassionate and informed support throughout their medical transitions.
Cole believes that his personal and professional experiences give him unique insights into supporting the transgender and non-binary community. Bridging the gap between medical professionals and the unique needs of transgender individuals is a key focus for him, ensuring compassionate and informed care is always provided—a mission that drives him daily.
Passionate about educating others on transgender healthcare, Cole aims to foster greater awareness and empathy. By dispelling misconceptions and highlighting the diverse experiences of transgender individuals, he strives for equality and understanding for all. Working at The Gender Hormone Clinic will allow Cole to improve the lives of transgender and non-binary individuals and relate to the transition process with firsthand experience.
