Apply the gel every morning after your shower to clean, dry skin, on the inner thighs or lower abdomen, not the upper arms or shoulders, even though the product leaflet says upper body. Applying to the wrong site is a common cause of a misleadingly high reading, so if a level comes back high we will ask you to repeat it with thigh-only application before changing anything. Avoid the genitals. Spread gently and allow 3-5 minutes to dry before dressing. Wash your hands thoroughly and cover the application area with clothing to minimise transfer risk to others. If using a new bottle, prime it first with three pump depressions and discard the initial gel. Testavan, our usual default gel, is started at one pump a day and titrated up; it has a very similar formulation to Testogel and is applied the same way. For either gel, your blood test should be taken 4 hours after application.

What oestradiol level are you aiming for?
