Lead Clinician & Specialist Nurse

Mary Burke RN NMP (She / Her)

Mary Burke is our Lead Clinician and Senior Prescriber leading our hormone therapy team. Mary qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1986, a Midwife in 1988 and a Family Planning Nurse in 1993. She also studied Acupuncture and qualified as an Acupuncturist from The British College of Acupuncture in 1992. Mary has worked in the NHS and privately for over thirty years accumulating an extensive knowledge base working for many years in general practice and women’s health. Mary returned to university in 2008 to study at degree level attaining her Independent Prescribing qualification so that she could work autonomously, allowing her to extend her scope of practice. In 2014, Mary became the first nurse in the UK to study with Dr Marion Gluck to achieve her accreditation in bio-identical hormone therapy. Having worked with transgender individuals for 10 years prior to the launch of The London Transgender Clinic, alongside Mr. Christopher Inglefield, Specialist Transgender Surgeon, she realised the extensive overlap between hormones prescribed for the andropause and menopause with transgender hormone therapy and thus began studying and prescribing for transgender patients under the guidance of Mr Christopher Inglefield. Mary now works alongside a varied multidisciplinary team that includes gender specialist psychiatrists, psychologists, endocrinologists and surgeons to provide a comprehensive, compassionate and supportive care package for all our transgender and non-binary patients from the first consult, through to hormone therapy and surgery. Mary is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), European Professional Association for Transgender Health (EPATH), British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS) and the British Menopause society. She regularly attends conferences to keep up to date with changing policies and practice, and to share her own work with others.

Mary has a burning passion for improving the landscape of transgender healthcare and providing the highest standard of care so that each patient that comes into the clinic feels respected, listened to and understood.
