Progesterone Injections therapy, a clear guide.
Patients sometimes ask about injectable progesterone, particularly those who've researched protocols used outside the UK. It isn't a standard route for gender-affirming care here: body-identical micronised progesterone, taken as oral capsules (Utrogestan or Gepretix), achieves clinical effect with much simpler administration and a strong UK evidence base.

What progesterone injections does, in plain English.
Both Utrogestan (Besins Healthcare) and Gepretix (Exeltis UK) are micronised progesterone soft capsules, body-identical to the progesterone the human body makes, and licensed in the UK as part of HRT. There is no clinically meaningful difference between them, so pharmacy substitution is common and safe.
If oral dosing causes drowsiness, dizziness, or GI side effects, your clinician can switch you to rectal administration of the same capsules without a new prescription. Some patients also use a cyclical pattern (e.g. 200 mg for 14 days each month). Confirm any cycle by email so the prescription matches.
